An honest look at schema, entity consistency and AI citations, without overclaiming.

Structured data is often sold as the switch that gets a business into AI answers. The evidence does not support a claim that strong. It does support a narrower one, and the narrower one is still worth acting on.
Schema markup states facts about a page in a machine-readable form: who the organisation is, where it operates, what it offers and at what price. Search engines use it to understand pages and to build some search features. Assistants that read the web can also read it.
No public, controlled study shows that adding schema on its own makes ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude or Google AI Overviews name a business. The providers do not publish how their answer systems weight structured data, and they change those systems without notice. Anyone promising citations from markup alone is selling a mechanism nobody can verify.
That gives you your own evidence instead of someone else's claim.
Entity and schema work is the foundation of an AEO engagement, not the whole of it. Corroboration from independent sources and extractable content do the rest. We monitor and report citations monthly; we do not guarantee them.
